Tuesday Jun 23, 2020
Tuesday Jun 23, 2020
Welcome back to the scoreperpodcast, I hope you've got your PG Tips ready for an absolute madness of an episode. We've been away for a hot sec doing up mental health exercises, but we couldn't stay away for too long, we love making content for you guys and gyals too much. Today we start to speak on various recent events which have occurred within our echo chambers such as the Reading attack (RIP to the victims), the beef no one asked for with Noname vs J Cole, and then some UK underground hip hop scene disputes with a female Caucus artist who may or may not have said the N-word. We then go on to discuss our experiences on lads holidays, and talk why lean up Jesus sandal crep could never be worn by wifey amongst other things. Tune In.

Welcome back to the scoreperpodcast! It's a few days after our chat with Mike Cole, and so to compliment his theoretical discussion of race Nathan and Thaddeus have decided to provide you with an emotional narrative for additional context. How did Nathan make it from being relegated to the "smelly food table" at primary school as a kid cause of his mum's jerk chicken, to OG militer setting pace on BO JO in the Commons? And can Thaddeus persuade the skinheads to drop the Fosters and Nazi salutes with the promise that the BLM movement has all the sweet ones? SPP discuss this and more surrounding the journey that is discovering one's blackness—without being too mad and sad. For reference "a Militer" is a militant black/brown man able to serve out adequate spinnings to those deserving of it.

Ep. 13 | "The system isn't working - W/ Professor Mike Cole"
Tuesday Jun 09, 2020
Tuesday Jun 09, 2020
This week we welcomed Professor Mike Cole from the University of East London in efforts to deconstruct systematic racism from a neo-Marxist perspective—a perspective implicit in the revolutionary rhetoric of the majority of social media posting this past week. As such, in this episode we hope to provide you man with a better conceptual means as to understanding the recent socio-political turmoil. We start by unpacking racism, specifically within the context of the UK, and work towards asking what real political action will lead us to a future society without race?
Introduction to Mike Cole - 00:00
News Cycle - 01:00
Skepticism about Marxism - 05:35
What is Race and can it be intimately linked to the class struggle?- 10:24
What is Critical Race Theory and is it analogous in its ineffectiveness to recent social media posting?- 17:55
Tackling racism from a neo-Marxist perspective - 22:31
How do we differ from the US - from a historical and socio-political aspect? - 24:49
What does it mean for Racism to be systemic - 27:30
The failings of the educational system, inside and outside of the classroom - 31:34
What can the younger apathetic generation do? - 39:10
Deconstructing common arguments against BLM - 45:17
What does a future society without race look like? - 50:10
The entire reading list with links will be posted on our Instagram - Scoreperpodcast
Mike's email for anyone who would like further reading materials and to ask some more questions on these issues.
Post edit amendments/notes:
-05:00- Bristol bus strike was more so a boycott and the memorial was something in talks; not concrete (The colour bar was a discriminatory hiring practice against blacks and minorities)
- 13:32 - Anti-asian racism falls within the category of old-color-coded racism
- 33:03 - page number is 122 not 22.
- 45:54 - the UK Criminal justice system was described as a white supremacist, this was supposed to be in the context of the US criminal justice system.
Big Thank You To Mike Cole

Monday May 11, 2020
Monday May 11, 2020
Whilst tayday was finishing his uni work and shoulder shaking Nathan and Eli take a deep dive into social media, really flexing some of those big words we spent 54 bags on at uni. Social media is an arena that has become pertinent during these times stuck indoors, and that comes under a ton of scrutiny. The question we look to answer this episode is: Does the onus lie with us, as users of social media, when it comes to shaping the digital landscape, or are the negative effects we see simply inescapable by-products that are part and parcel of social media?
